ComMar Sales will celebrate 50 years of service to the marine industry in September.
ComMar represents leading equipment and accessories manufacturers in the US northeast, mid Atlantic and southeast states.
Founded in Massachusetts by Bill Glaser in 1969 and now headquartered in Rhode Island, ComMar got its start representing technical marine electronics manufacturers from Maine to Virginia.
When current partners Tim Conroy, Mark Mitchell and Norm MacLeod came on board in the 1980’s, ComMar added marine hardware and safety lines, expanded its representation to the southeast US states in the 90’s, to the Caribbean islands in 2005 and to the gulf coast states of the US in 2008.
Over the years, ComMar has continually adapted to the dynamics of the marine industry to help manufacturers build brands via key distributors such as Land & Sea, Mesco, Donovan and Paxton, retail chains such as West Marine and large independent retailers such as Coast Navigation, Shanes Marine, Defender Industries and Hamilton Marine.
“The challenge then and now continues to be maintaining a level playing field while delivering margin return for both the distribution channels and the manufacturer, said ComMar partner Mark Mitchell. “The Internet has changed the go to market strategy of many manufacturers, but the goal of maintaining healthy margin returns for all still exists,” he added.
In this digital age where face-to-face meetings occur less often, ComMar has never lost sight of the importance of nurturing the many long term relationships established with manufacturers and the firm’s marketing channel partners. “We must constantly work so both sides win and the integrity of each and every member of the ComMar team to build trust is critical to this sometimes delicate process,” ComMar partner Norm MacLeod said.
Looking ahead, the ComMar partners have added three younger members to the sales team to assure the firm will have solid leadership for many years to come. “Our young sales professionals are being groomed to take on more responsibilities, develop the relationships and learn from our experience,” said ComMar partner Tim Conroy. “As we look to the horizon, we see the next generation well prepared to take ComMar Sales to new and higher levels in an industry we have all been so very fortunate to serve,” he added.
